Security tightens as ADC National Convention commences in Abuja

Security has been significantly heightened at the Rainbow Hotel in Abuja’s Garki District, the venue for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) national convention. The proceedings, overseen by National Working Committee (NWC) Chairman David Mark, are scheduled to begin this afternoon.

A heavy contingent of armed personnel, including officers from the police, army, Department of State Services (DSS), and civil defence, has been deployed to the area. These operatives are conducting regular patrols and enforcing strict access controls to the premises.

Road closures disrupt traffic in Garki

Major access roads leading to the hotel have been barricaded, causing significant disruption for motorists and residents. Consequently, many participants arriving in private vehicles have been denied entry to the immediate vicinity of the venue.

Several attendees have been forced to park their vehicles at distant locations, such as the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) secretariat and the Federal Secretariat. Many described these areas as safer options given the restricted access and large crowds gathered at the hotel entrance.

Crowds gather amid strict access control

Despite the heavy security measures, a large crowd of party members and supporters has gathered at the main gates. However, the rigorous screening process and patrols have hindered entry for a substantial number of these individuals.

The heightened alert follows the arrival of various delegates for the convention, which is expected to shape the party’s strategic direction. Access remains strictly monitored as the NWC prepares to officially open the session.
