Enzo Fernandez’s agent slams Chelsea suspension as ‘unfair’

Javier Pastore, the agent representing Enzo Fernandez, has criticised Chelsea’s decision to suspend the Argentinian midfielder following recent comments about his future.

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior confirmed during a pre-match press conference that Fernández will miss the club’s next two fixtures, an FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and a Premier League clash with Manchester City.

The sanction comes after Fernández appeared on Argentine TV show Nadie Dice Nada, where he spoke positively about Madrid.

“I really like Madrid because it’s very similar to Buenos Aires, the food, everything,” Fernández said.

Those remarks, along with earlier comments to ESPN Argentina in which he admitted uncertainty over his future at Stamford Bridge, were interpreted by Chelsea as a breach of internal expectations.

However, Pastore has strongly defended his client, insisting the punishment is excessive.

“The punishment is completely unfair,” Pastore told The Athletic.

“Enzo didn’t understand the situation. He did not mention any club or say he wants to leave Chelsea, far from it.

“He only mentioned Madrid, the city, because he was asked which European city he’d like to live in one day. At no point did he say he wants to leave Chelsea or London.”

The situation has intensified speculation around Fernandez’s future, even as his representatives maintain that his comments have been misinterpreted.
