Tottenham agree £51.8m deal to sign RB Leipzig striker Xavi Simons
Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement to sign RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons in a deal worth £51.8 million.
The 22-year-old Netherlands international has agreed personal terms with Spurs and is understood to have completed his medical in London ahead of finalising the transfer.
Both clubs have an agreement in principle, with only minor details of the package left to conclude in the next 24 hours.
Simons had been linked with Chelsea earlier this summer, but the Blues have since turned their focus to sealing a £40m move for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.
His arrival makes Simons the third major signing of Thomas Frank’s tenure at Tottenham, following deals for Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus.
The north London club had pursued Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze earlier in the window but were unsuccessful, with Eze joining Arsenal and Gibbs-White remaining at Nottingham Forest.
A versatile attacker capable of playing across the front line, Simons scored 10 goals and registered 13 assists for Leipzig last season, enhancing his reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.
Spurs see him as a key piece in their rebuild under Frank, with the Dutchman expected to slot straight into the starting XI when the Premier League season resumes.
