Terrorists kill four, including two aids workers, abduct six others
At least four civilians, including two aid workers, were killed and six others abducted when Boko Haram terrorists attacked and ambushed a civilian vehicle along the Gwoza-Limankara road in Gwoza Local Government Area in southern Borno State on Sunday, Business Day has learnt.
The victims were ambushed by the outlawed group several kilometres from Limankara village in Gwoza council area. Three people, including two humanitarian workers whose names are being withheld, were shot and killed on the spot.
According to a security source who spoke to Business Day by phone, among the four people shot dead was a humanitarian worker who had been married for less than a year.
The source added that a female aid worker who resisted abduction attempts was also shot dead by the terrorists. Her body was later recovered by volunteers.
“Four people were shot dead after Boko Haram terrorists ambushed commuters between Gwoza and Limankara—three males and one female, including a staff member of a national NGO providing food support to the people of Gwoza,” the source said.
A humanitarian source expressed devastation over the news, calling it “a tragedy for the humanitarian community in Borno State and the northeast region.”
Our correspondent also obtained an internal communication that provided additional details about those abducted in the Gwoza-Limankara ambush.
“A Catholic Reverend Father who serves as coordinator of an NGO has been abducted, along with a humanitarian midwife working with an international non-governmental organisation. She was abducted with her son and is five months pregnant,” the statement concluded.
