Strategic Shift: Hon. Nkiruka Onyejeocha Charts New Course with Massive 2.5 Million Jobs and Skills Drive
In a bold move to tackle unemployment and boost national productivity, the Federal Government of Nigeria is set to launch the Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP) — an ambitious initiative designed to generate 2.5 million jobs and equip Nigerians with relevant skills for a fast-evolving economy.
Spearheaded by the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, LEEP is a flagship initiative of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 8-Point Agenda, focused on economic growth, job creation, and inclusive development.
The grand launch is scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the State House Banquet Hall, Abuja, by 10:00 AM. The event will convene a high-level audience including senior government officials, employers, development partners, civil society organizations, and young innovators eager to tap into the initiative’s vast opportunities.
LEEP introduces a dynamic suite of programs such as: • Digital Skills Training • Vocational and Entrepreneurship Programs (VEP) • LEEP Digital Academy • Job Portals and Job Fairs • Learning Centres Nationwide
It also includes strategic interventions such as pathways to international remote work, labour compliance reform, and digital literacy expansion, with a strong focus on youth engagement and women’s economic empowerment.
Speaking at a pre-launch press conference, Hon. Onyejeocha described LEEP as a “transformative agenda for national workforce development,” stating, “The launch marks a significant step towards addressing the challenges facing Nigeria’s workforce and promoting economic growth and development.”
LEEP is not only a response to the pressing need for decent work but also a long-term strategy to future-proof Nigeria’s human capital against global labour shifts. Through public-private partnerships and community-driven learning hubs, the programme aims to unlock new economic frontiers and redefine employment standards across Nigeria.
