PSG clinch UEFA Super Cup with comeback win over Tottenham
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) kicked off the new season in style, claiming their first-ever UEFA Super Cup with a dramatic 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Tottenham Hotspur after a late fightback sealed a 2-2 draw in Udine, Italy.
Tottenham, in their first competitive match under new coach Thomas Frank, appeared on course for the trophy after Micky van de Ven’s 39th-minute strike and Cristian Romero’s goal early in the second half put them 2-0 up.
However, PSG’s substitutes turned the tide, with Lee Kang-in pulling one back in the 85th minute before Gonçalo Ramos headed home a stoppage-time equaliser.
In the shoot-out, new PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier denied Van de Ven, while Mathys Tel missed for Spurs. Ramos, Ousmane Dembélé, Lee, and Nuno Mendes found the net for the French champions, with Mendes converting the decisive kick.
The win marks PSG’s fifth trophy of 2025 and the first time a French club has lifted the UEFA Super Cup, giving Luis Enrique’s side the perfect launchpad for the new Ligue 1 season.
