Premier League probes Chelsea over Todd Boehly’s ticket reselling controversy

The Premier League has written to Chelsea seeking clarification over the club’s stance on ticket resellers, following concerns about co-owner Todd Boehly’s involvement with Vivid Seats, a company the league categorises as an “unauthorised ticket seller”.

Boehly, who holds a 13% stake in Chelsea, is also a director and investor in Vivid Seats, a U.S.-based ticketing platform that has been listing Chelsea matches, with some tickets for Stamford Bridge fixtures reportedly selling for up to £20,000.

While the platform is not authorised to operate in the United Kingdom, it remains accessible from overseas markets.

The issue has sparked backlash from supporters. In March, the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust (CST) issued an open letter to the Premier League, calling for an investigation and describing the situation as a “breach of trust” and a “clear conflict of interest”.

Premier League CEO Richard Masters confirmed last week during a Football Supporters’ Association event that the matter is under review, describing discussions with Chelsea as “ongoing”.

The CST has also escalated the matter to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), submitting further evidence and raising concerns about transparency and fan treatment.

While Chelsea have pledged to crack down on ticket touting, they have not directly addressed Vivid Seats or named specific platforms. The CST welcomed the club’s statement but continues to press for more concrete action.

Compounding the issue, atmosphere concerns at Stamford Bridge have lingered, with previous manager Mauricio Pochettino and current head coach Enzo Maresca both commenting on the “flat” environment. Trials of a singing section in the Conference League have had mixed results.

Chelsea are currently in the United States competing in the FIFA Club World Cup, and will face ES Tunis in Philadelphia on Tuesday night.
