The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says the average retail price of a litre of petrol rose from ₦770.54 in July 2024 to ₦1,024.99 in July 2025.
According to its Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) Price Watch for July 2025, released in Abuja on Thursday, the price represents a year-on-year increase of 33.02%.
However, compared with June 2025, when petrol averaged ₦1,037.66 per litre, the July price declined by 1.22%.
On state-by-state analysis, Jigawa recorded the highest average price at ₦1,107.52 per litre, followed by Lagos (₦1,100.29) and Sokoto (₦1,100.00). The lowest average prices were reported in Zamfara (₦884.63), Yobe (₦950.60), and Kogi (₦986.67).
By zone, the Northwest recorded the highest average retail price at ₦1,035.85 per litre, while the Northeast posted the lowest at ₦1,017.65.
