The Deputy Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Abayomi Akinruntan from Ilaje constituency 1, has resigned.
BusinessDay reports that at the plenary sitting held on Tuesday and presided over by the Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, the House Majority Leader, Emmanuel Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi from Owo constituency 1 also stepped down and replaced with Ose constituency lawmaker, Olatunji Oshati.
According to Akinruntan who is from the same local government area from Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, his resignation was due to political power sharing in the state.
Akinruntan has been replaced with another member representing Okitipupa constituency 11, Ololade Gbegudu.
Consequently, the newly appointed Majority Leader, Olatunji Oshati of Ose Constituency, moved the motion for the nomination, while a lawmaker representing Akoko North East, Oluwatoyin Japhet nominated Gbegudu. The motion was seconded by Chris Ayebusiwa member representing Okitipupa Constituency I.
Prior to this, Speaker Oladiji had formally announced Olatunji Oshati as the new Majority Leader of the House. His appointment was ratified during a parliamentary meeting of the lawmakers.
The shake-up in the Assembly leadership comes as part of efforts to maintain political balance in the distribution of key positions among the various zones of the state.
