Klopp congratulates Liverpool on 20th Premier League title
Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has congratulated the Reds after they secured their record-equalling 20th Premier League title on Sunday.
Liverpool’s league success, achieved in Arne Slot’s first season in charge, was built largely on the foundations laid by Klopp before his departure last year.
After his emotional farewell in May 2024, Klopp famously sang Slot’s name at Anfield, a gesture the Dutchman warmly reciprocated after Sunday’s 5-1 victory over Tottenham.
“Super grateful for the past, super, super happy about the present, extremely positive about the future!” Klopp wrote on Instagram on Monday, alongside a photo of Liverpool’s title celebrations at Anfield.
“Congratulations – YNWA (You’ll Never Walk Alone).”
Klopp signed off his message with “Thank you, Luv,” a nod to the affectionate Liverpudlian phrase that had been emblazoned on the hoodie he wore during his farewell.
Slot, who inherited a strong squad and culture from Klopp, has frequently expressed his gratitude towards his predecessor. Speaking after the title-clinching win, he again paid tribute to Klopp, both in a post-match interview and during his press conference.
“I think that is something no manager ever did before. So that definitely helped me,” Slot said.
“But apart from that, he helped me even more by the team he left behind and the culture he left behind in that team.
“The quality the players have was obvious to everyone. But the culture of hard work, not only from the players but also from the staff, has been incredible.”
Klopp, who won the Champions League and Premier League, among other trophies, during his time at Liverpool, is now serving as Red Bull’s head of global soccer.
