Canada to host info session, job fair for newcomers in trades and construction
The Centre for Newcomers, Canada, in collaboration with the Trade Pathways Forum under the Alberta Construction Association, is set to host an informative session aimed at assisting newcomers in exploring career pathways and apprenticeships within Canada’s trade and construction sector.
This initiative aims to connect newcomers with promising career prospects in the trade and construction industry while addressing Alberta’s pressing skilled labour shortage.
Trade Pathways is an Alberta Construction Association program that helps with tools, workwear, transport and apprenticeship tuition after eligible candidates are hired by participating employers.
The in-person event will hold on Friday, April 11 from 10am to 2pm at the Centre for Newcomers (125, 565 – 36 Street NE, Calgary AB T2A 6K3).
This will feature a job fair alongside post-employment support services tailored to the needs of newcomers.
Attendees will have the opportunity to gain insight into the wealth of resources available, including wage subsidies, financial assistance for tools and uniforms, and advice from seasoned employers on enhancing their employability in the industry.
An expert panel will also be present, offering attendees valuable perspectives and guidance regarding the construction and trades field.

Through the partnership with the Trade Pathways initiative, qualifying newcomers who successfully secure employment within the trades sector will be entitled to a range of additional support measures.
These include wage subsidies, allowances for essential tools and professional workwear, transportation assistance, remunerated training programmes, certifications, and other benefits.
Such provisions are strategically designed to ensure newcomers are adequately prepared for careers in construction and trades, while simultaneously offering employers enhanced workforce value.
Eligible candidates are encouraged to submit their applications to ascertain their qualification for the programme.
Trade Pathways, an initiative of the Alberta Construction Association, offers assistance to newly-employed participants, covering costs associated with tools, workwear, transport, and apprenticeship tuition, to foster a seamless transition into the industry.
