Barcelona extend Hansi Flick’s contract until 2027
Barcelona have confirmed that head coach Hansi Flick has signed a new contract keeping him at the club until June 2027, following a sensational debut campaign in which he led the Catalan giants to a domestic treble.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the Spanish champions said: “Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement for the renewal of his contract, which will tie him to the club until 30 June 2027.”
Flick, who replaced Xavi Hernandez after a trophyless 2023/24 season, has made an immediate impact at the Camp Nou. Originally appointed on a deal running through 2026, the German tactician has revitalised Barçelona, guiding them to La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup titles in his first year in charge.
Under Flick’s leadership, Barcelona also enjoyed an impressive run in the UEFA Champions League, reaching the semi-finals before falling to Inter Milan in a thrilling two-legged tie.
Domestically, Flick’s side have been prolific, scoring 99 goals in 37 La Liga matches, with one league fixture remaining, away to Athletic Bilbao on Sunday. The team’s resurgence has been spearheaded by a dynamic front line featuring teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, Brazilian winger Raphinha, and veteran striker Robert Lewandowski.
Flick’s flawless record in cup finals has continued in Spain. After victories over Real Madrid in both the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup, his finals record now stands at seven wins from seven, including five with Bayern Munich.
“The excitement that the German has brought to the club in his first year in charge has made Barcelona a feared opponent once again in Europe,” the club added.
“Flick has won 43 of the 54 games he has been in charge, a win rate of 73 percent, the best in a first season since Luis Enrique recorded 83 percent.”
Despite Real Madrid’s high-profile acquisition of Kylian Mbappé, who has scored 41 goals this season, the Spanish capital side finish the season without a major trophy, while Flick’s Barcelona have reclaimed domestic dominance and restored their reputation on the European stage.
