Tokyo 2025 World Championships: Amusan cruises into 100m hurdles semi-finals



Nigeria’s sprint queen and world record holder, Tobi Amusan, booked her place in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo with on Sunday.

The 28-year-old clocked 12.53seconds to win heat six, finishing ahead of Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas (12.69seconds) and Italy’s Elena Carraro (12.86seconds).

The result secured Amusan an automatic spot in Tuesday’s semi-finals, where both the semis and final will be contested.

Amusan, who remains one of the favourites for the title, will line up in Semifinal Heat 2 alongside Nadine Visser (Netherlands), Amoi Brown (Jamaica), Alaysha Johnson (USA), and Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska, among others.

Elsewhere, compatriot Sade Olatoye bowed out of the women’s hammer throw after managing a best effort of 68.82m, short of the qualification mark.

The top two athletes from each semi-final, plus the next two fastest runners, will advance to the final. Amusan will be looking to continue her fine form as she targets another shot at global glory.
