FG reaffirms bilateral ties with Trinidad and Tobago, Malaysia
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago as well as Malaysia as both nations celebrate their Independence Anniversaries.
Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, in separate statements by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued on Sunday, congratulated his counterparts, Sean Sobers, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago, and Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Bin Haji Hasan, Malaysia’s Foreign Minister.
The statements were signed by Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Ministry’s spokesperson.
Tuggar praised the resilience, unity, and democratic spirit of the people of both countries, describing the celebrations as a testament to their determination in building prosperous and harmonious nations.
On Trinidad and Tobago, he highlighted Nigeria’s long-standing relations with the Caribbean nation, rooted in their shared membership of the Commonwealth, with cooperation spanning culture, education, trade, and multilateral diplomacy.
He further noted that both countries collaborate closely within the United Nations, the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP), and other international fora to advance peace, global security, and equitable development.
For Malaysia, Tuggar underscored decades of strong diplomatic and economic ties with Nigeria, marked by collaboration in trade, education, investment, and multilateral engagements.
He pointed to active cooperation through platforms such as the Commonwealth, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the D-8, and the United Nations, where both nations work together in promoting peace, sustainable development, and south-south cooperation.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment, Tuggar pledged to explore new areas of collaboration with both Trinidad and Tobago and Malaysia, while consolidating existing partnerships for the mutual benefit of the countries.
“On these joyous occasions, Nigeria conveys its heartfelt felicitations to the governments and people of Trinidad and Tobago and Malaysia, with best wishes for continued peace, prosperity, and national advancement,” the ministry stated.
