INEC declares PDP’s Oyekunle winner of Ibadan North Federal Constituency By-election
Folajimi Oyekunle, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been declared the winner of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency By-election held on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC
Abiodun Oluwafemi Oluwadare of the University of Ibadan, professor and the Returning Officer of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency By-election, made the declaration at the Ibadan North Collation Centre, Ikolaba High School on Sunday morning.
Oluwadare, professor, said Oyekunle polled 18,404 votes, having won in all twelve wards in Ibadan North federal constituency.
Adewale Olatunji of the All Progressives Congress APC garnered 8,313 votes, while Femi Akin-Alamu of the African Democratic Congress ADC got 256 votes.
Likewise, Islamiyah Abdulkadir of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), polled 88 votes, Olabisi Odususi of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA had 40 votes, and Hammed Badmus of the Zenith Labour Party ZLP got 18 votes.
Oyekunle, with this victory, will officially replace the late representative of Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Musiliu Olaide Akinremi (Jagaban), who passed on last year.
There was, however, jubilation as supporters of Oyekunle and PDP took to the streets of Ibadan North in celebration, describing the outcome as a “coast-to-coast victory” and a clear indication that the umbrella party remains the party of the people in the Pacesetter State.
Adeniran Tella, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Resident Electoral Commissioner for Oyo State, had earlier stated that the process was peaceful, with no reports of violence or malfunctioning Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines.
