Liverpool star Diogo Jota dies in car crash two weeks after wedding

Liverpool and Portugal striker Diogo Jota has tragically died in a car crash in northern Spain at the age of 28 years, just two weeks after marrying his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso.

The horrific crash occurred on the A-52 motorway in the Zamora province, a major route connecting northern Portugal and Spain.

Jota was reportedly travelling with his younger brother, André, 26, who is also feared to have died in the incident.

Emergency services in the Castilla y León region confirmed the accident, revealing that the vehicle had caught fire following the crash.

“The 1-1-2 Castilla y León operations room received multiple calls reporting a vehicle accident at Km. 65 of the A-52, in the municipality of Cernadilla, Zamora. A car was involved in an accident, and the vehicle was on fire,” a statement said.

“Emergency medical personnel confirmed the death of two individuals at the scene.”

The devastating news comes just days after Jota celebrated his wedding with Rute, the mother of his three children, in a ceremony in Porto. In what is now his final interview, released only yesterday, Jota described himself as “the luckiest man in the world.”

Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolves and quickly became a fan favourite for his work rate, versatility, and goal-scoring ability. His sudden passing has left the football world in shock.
