Flamingos get tough draw in FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup
Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, have been drawn in Group D alongside France, Canada, and Samoa in the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The tournament will be held in Rabat, Morocco, from October 17 to November 8.
The official draw ceremony took place in Rabat and was overseen by FIFA Tournament Director Jaime Yarza and FIFA Chief Women’s Football Officer Sarai Bareman.
For the first time in the tournament’s history, 24 teams will compete for the title, expanding the competition’s global reach.
Nigeria qualified for the tournament after defeating South Africa in the penultimate round of African qualifiers and easing past Algeria in the final round.
This will be the Flamingos’ eighth appearance at the U-17 Women’s World Cup. Their best finish came in 2022, when they won the bronze medal in India.
Other African representatives include hosts Morocco, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, and Zambia.
