Wike hails Okowa’s endorsement of Tinubu, says it validates his 2023 position
Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has applauded former Delta State governor and 2023 PDP vice-presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa, for endorsing President Bola Tinubu.
Wike described the move as a clear validation of the stance he took during the last presidential election.
On Wednesday, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), with reports indicating that his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, is also preparing to join the ruling party.
Oborevwori, who succeeded Okowa as governor, was elected on the PDP ticket during the 2023 general elections.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said that Ifeanyi Okowa’s endorsement of President Bola Tinubu affirms the decision he made to support Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.
“This is yet another validation of the president’s good governance and dedication to the country’s development,” the statement said.
“I’m particularly pleased that others are now recognizing what I saw ahead of the 2023 election — they are joining the Renewed Hope train,” Wike added.
He also emphasized that the timing of Okowa and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s endorsement is significant for the Niger Delta.
“They have stepped forward at the right moment to back the president, ensuring that the Niger Delta region can benefit even more from this administration. I commend them,” he said. He encouraged other Nigerians who have not yet backed the president to join in, stressing the need for national unity and collective progress.
